On December 7th, we received with sadness the news of the passing of Pau Roca, Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), at the age of 65 after a long illness.

Pau Roca was a kind, upright, highly educated, imaginative, and loyal man, above all loyal to his friends and ideas. He was a hard worker who, after studying biology and specializing in another noble product, oil, ventured into the world of wine. He quickly made his mark as the head of the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) and participated as an expert in various OIV working groups related to consumption, consumer protection, and climate change. These roles culminated in his appointment as Director General of the OIV in 2018.

He was a committed Director to the Organization and the entire Vine and Wine sector, particularly focusing on critical future aspects such as climate change, sustainability, digitalization of wine, and the significant decision to move the headquarters from Paris to Dijon, which will bear fruit during the upcoming new centenary of the OIV starting next year.

From VINOFED and all its member competitions, we deeply feel the loss of a friend. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all his friends, colleagues at the OIV, and especially to his family.

Pau Roca, Rest in Peace.
