Is it possible to run a large wine competition during the pandemic? The numerous handicaps did not prevent the 150 expert wine judges from tasting more than 8,000 wines entered for the BWT over the course of 11 consecutive days. As a result, 2,447 medals were awarded in accordance with the OIV rules. These correspond to 34 Grand Gold medals, 2,350 Gold medals and 63 Silver medals. Planning and holding the world’s largest wine competition under the patronage of the OIV during a global pandemic was an exceptionally complicated task; every possible precaution was taken not only to maintain the usual high standards but even to improve them.
